Doric 4x4 - My Rovers - DEC

What is DEC ?

DEC is a 100" Land Rover Defender built on a Range Rover Chassis. Currently it's about 90% complete. The roll cage, trim and extra spot lights still need to be fitted.

With about 2 to 3 months of spare time DEC should be complete. Hopefully by the end of 2006 2007 2008 assuming the weather permits welding !!

Why build a 100" Land Rover Hybrid ?

Although I loved my TYG I got a yen to build something different. Why? Well, because : -
  1. In the Yorkshire Off Road Club you are allowed a shunt on competition events if you have a wheel base of 100" or more. This may be an advantage in some cases.
  2. TYG was a little on the cramped side and when camping there is precious little room for 2 people with all their gear.
  3. I wanted to create a vehicle of which I know the history - it's build and quality.
  4. A van was required for security when travelling into Europe.
  5. It would give me the opportunity to play with some more power tools!!

What was DEC originally ?

DEC was a 1988 3.5 EFi Rover Rover. Purchased in the middle of December 2003.

The only this that were different on DEC were :-
  • The roof rack made from a very heavy tubular steel design.
  • It had a couple of mobile phone holders.
  • Thanks to some kids the rear window had been smashed.
  • Finally as typical of motor that's been stood the fuel filler door was rusted shut.
