Web Site : Parkwood 4x4 Centre also known as Tong 4x4 Centre

Parkwood Off Road Centre is situated in the picturesque village of Tong in West Yorkshire, just 2 miles from the M62 and only 4 miles from Leeds and Bradford city centers, and is run by father and daughter team, Rebbecca and David Hoare, the site has been successfully hosting a wide range of events since 1993.

To ensure people have a safe and enjoyable visit the routes are marked out and must be followed. You will be given a window sticker with Blue, Red or Black on this will indicate what routes you are to follow dependant on your vehicles capabilities. BLACK routes are difficult and are only for modified 4x4 vehicles fitted with lift kit, Mud tyres and a WINCH! Please note: Recovery charge may apply to people using black routes in standard 4x4s.

Tong 4x4 as it is often refered to as one of the few off road sites that has the majority of the off road tracks through woodland. Where you are out of the woods you will generally find ponds - some of which are quite deep. If you do not have a snorkel check with a marshal before you attempt it. Where you find a water on a Blue route it will generally be shallow. On a Red route the water is more prone to the weather. If there has been a week of rain before an event some of the Red routes are closer to a Red+ or Black than a Red. Extra care should be taken in these conditions.

Winter Tyre Restrictions

The Parkwood 4x4 Centre has placed the following Winter restrictions on tyres.

NO tyres larger than 36" tall and 13" wide will be permitted to use the site - all tyre sizes will be measured with a gauge not what is says on the side wall.

NO tractor, dumper tyres, sataniks, implement pattern, maxi cross or alligators all tyres must be road legal.

The intention of this ruling is to prevent excessive ground damage by the use of such tyres. The list is given as a guide as there a so many tyres, the list could be endless!

If in doubt remember that they need to have an E mark to be road legal in the United Kingdom and remember the size ruling.

These are some of the acceptable tyres - Stone Diamond, Diamond Back, Dirt Devil, Terminator, Simex and INSA turbo - all the regular makes of BFG, General Grabber. Michelins are all ok too.

Tong Village near Bradford and Leeds. Click here for a Streetmap map. Or here for a Google Earth Map.

Off Road Features :

  • Covers over 100 acres of woodland. These contain tracks of that have varying levels of nastyness and not all of them can be driven, some will require a winch.
  • Mud - Boat loads of it and it sticks well.
  • Side slopes - enough for several brown trouser moments. However these are easily avoidable.
  • Water - There are 2 large lakes which always draw a crowd. The smaller of the lakes can often be tackled without a snorkel. The larger of the two require very good door seals, a snorkel and it would be a good idea to attach a rope first if you plan on driving straight through the middle especially if it's rained recently.
  • A rally track - although you are discouraged from driving it at speed on play days. Contact Parkwood 4x4 if you wish to use this for its intended purpose.

Additional features offered by the site :

  • Driver Training - this includes anything from novice training to corporate training.
  • A helicopter landing pad for those of you lucky enough to afford one.
  • On play days there is usually a catering van which always gets busy around lunch.
  • Venue Hire - in the past the site has been taken over by various corporate companies, challenge event organisers, vehicle owners club festivals and local off road trials clubs.
